Refuting the false claim ‘Love Jihaad’

Refuting the false claim ‘Love Jihaad’

If Hindus disapprove of Hindu girls falling in love with Muslim boys, know that we, Muslims, deplore it even more than they do. Muslim law clearly prohibits marriage with idol-worshippers.

However, if Hindus wish to give out the impression that Muslims are conspiring against them by sending Muslim boys to beguile Hindu girls, then know that they are badly mistaken.

Close interactions and contacts at schools are what encourage love affairs between youngsters of different communities. If anything, the country’s education system is encouraging inter-religious marriages in the country.

It is also unwise to claim that Muslims are conspiring against Hindus since we, Muslims, can very well tell you this: By marrying your girls to our boys, you may be aiming at inciting our youths to incline towards idol-worship or to have children who will adopt the religion of their mothers.

It is to be known also that we also feel victimized when we lose our young girls who have fallen in love with idol-worshippers. It is important to note that the choice of a spouse is an individual right. If a person’s choice is good, nobody can force him to change it. Likewise, if the choice seems wrong, one can advise but cannot force the individual to choose otherwise.

As for the term ‘love jihad’, Jihad is an Islamic teaching mentioned in our sacred books: Qur’an and Sunnah (Prophetic traditions). Though it exists in different forms, none exists in the form of ‘Engaging in Jihad by falling in love with members of other religions.’ Therefore, ‘love jihad’ is a sheer falsehood being attributed to Islam and Muslims, as Muslims do not engage in such type of ‘Jihad’.
